the first kilometers of the year are done and dusted and the season finally starts. Last week, I was granted the opportunity to do about 110 kilometers of testing in the Ford Fiesta Rally2 in the very North of Lapland on ice and snow together with Fabio Schwarz, son of the ultimate German winner of a WRC round – Armin Schwarz. It is absolutely impressive, what those cars are able to deliver when equipped with 6mm studs and which speed is possible on the icy surface. I think the pictures have their own language and I don’t have to admit that it makes you proud to be allowed to run such a car on Finnish ground.
At this place I want to express my gratitude to Armin and Fabio for giving me the opportunity to finally experience my first kilometers on ice and snow after more than 15 years in this sport.
This weekend, the first event is scheduled for this year. Together with Christopher Gerhard I will tackle the Welfen-Winter-Rallye at Motorsportarena Oschersleben. We will run the triple header event with number 1 on the car – one more first-time experience in my career. We will try our best to make the most of it, but anyway the goal should be to keep the number!
